PURPLE RAIN GAME BREEDING COMMUNITY SOCIAL UPLIFTMENT
At Purple Rain, the holding company of Purple Rain Game Breeding, we strongly believe in doing our part not only for the environment, but also to help our staff members, local communities and villages with educational, charitable and self-improvement activities. Whilst activities may be a 'once off' we maintain the charitable and educational aspects of the upliftment program at all times, mainly through the Madikwe Mambas, details of which can be viewed below.
We invite you to get involved in any capacity email Colin here to discuss how you can do so.
Thank you for your support!
Introducing the Madikwe Mambas Running Club!
The Purple Rain staff comes from four different villages namely:
-
Obakeng
-
Welverdiendt
-
Molatedi and
-
Welgeval
Our Madikwe Mambas runners, being members of these communities, ascertain what the exact needs of the communities are. A priority project list is then drawn up after which the runners then try and raise funds for their communities.
Since the inception of the running club:
-
Crèches have been built,
-
School playgrounds have been upgraded,
-
Bus shelters have been erected,
-
Old lands have been transformed into lusern fields with water pivots.
The Madikwe Mambas consists of members of the local community who are all employed within the Madikwe Conservancy.
As part of our ethos at Purple Rain the holding company of Purple Rain Game Breeding, we strongly believe that a ‘healthy body ensures a healthy mind’. It is therefore our aim to ensure that we provide all of our staff with the opportunity to participate in various sporting activities. This has and continues to instill a healthy attitude and atmosphere in our working and living environment.
Our Madikwe Mambas running club is not just an ordinary running club; it is a running club with a cause - and that is one of social good! Our runners run for their community as well as for the upliftment of the children in their communities.
And so the list goes on!
Please see upcoming events you can get involved with, listed on this page.
As this is an ongoing initiative for the Purple Rain team we sincerely hope that you will aid us in assisting the Mambas and their incredible upliftment cause, if not for these events then anytime you are able to.

Say "No" To Abuse Against Women And Children - 21st November 2017
In an effort to reduce violence against women and children in our communities, Purple Rain Game Breeders will be hosting a Tswana speaking Pastor and Social worker from the Moreletta Church Community in Pretoria East, at our Hillhouse Lodge, from 20-23 November to assist us with outreach days in four different communities.
We have had meetings with the chiefs and tribal councils of the villages to ask permission to host the event in their village and we have also paid a visit to Madikwe police station, Madikwe department of justice and the Madikwe Social workers to invite them to be part of the event – they have all confirmed that they will be delighted to join in on our team to make a difference.
The marketing for this event started in August and September and posters have been distributed in all the villages.
Madikwe Mamba community upliftment athletics day
The annual Madikwe Mamba Community Upliftment Athletics day, that was hosted at Nonceba Primary School at Welverdiendt Village on Monday 15 May 2017, turned out to be another huge success!
The event was opened by Mr Mawela, the chief of Welverdiendt Village, and the procedures of the day was explained to the learners by our Madikwe Mambas Chairman Bethuel Kgotsitsiele.
The children had an absolute splendid day and learners from crèche age to 13 years old participated in sprinting races from 60m, 80m, 100m, 150m and 200m.
Every participant that finished a race in first, second or third place received a gold, silver or bronze medal for his or her achievement.
The children were also served with boerewors rolls, cold drinks, apples and oranges (Sponsored from Zeerust Pick and Pay) after the race to ensure that everyone that participated got a balanced meal on the day.
This event was hosted as a warm up event for the Comrades marathon that will be taking place on the 4th of June where the Madikwe Mambas running club will run to raise funds for community upliftment projects.
Last year, the Madikwe Mambas managed to raise R70 000 and has subsequently built a kitchen at Obakeng crèche and furnished Dwarsberg Primary school with an oven, fridge and electricity for their kitchen. A huge big thank you to Syferfontein Safari’s, Zeerust Pick and Pay and Purple Rain Game Breeders for being sponsors on the day!
The following Community Upliftment Projects are
currently taking place
1) Obakeng Crèche – Building of a kitchen:
Quotes were obtained from local community building service providers to help with job creation in the communities. The service provider that showed most potential to successfully complete the project was selected and building commenced on the 6th of March! Purple Rain Game Breeders supplied the builder with all the building material and the building is making progress daily!
If anyone has old pots and pans, any form of cutlery or crockery or kitchen equipment that they would like to contribute to the Obakeng crèche kitchen, it would be greatly appreciated! You can contact Carlien at +27 83 312 4014.
2) Dwarsberg Primary School –
Installation of burglar bars and the sponsoring of a stove and fridge:
Purple Rain Game Breeders bought the Dwarsberg Primary School kitchen a brand new fridge and stove and burglar bars to secure the kitchen has been welded by our team. The fridge, stove, burglar bars and Madikwe Mambas sign will be delivered to the school with a group of guest on Wednesday 22 March 2017!
POST COMRADES LETTER FROM THE MADIKWE MAMBAS RUNNING CLUB CHAIRMAN:
Bethuel Kgosietsile -
Hi all,
A very big thanks to all the donors for all your support! It was an adventure for the Madikwe Mambas to travel to Durban to run the 2017 Comrades 86.73km up-run to Pietermaritzburg.
The Madikwe Mambas participants were 10 runners and our 3 supporters who set off from Madikwe at 3am on Friday; arriving in Durban 11.5 hours later at 2:30pm to collect our race numbers at the Durban Expo. Then we drove to Umhlanga Rocks and relaxed enjoying the view of the sea. Some of our team have never seen a sea before! We explored Umhlanga whilst discussing our Sunday ultra-marathon, where nervousness came, but we supported each other (I personally have ran comrades marathon 6 times but it is not something you used to it).
The big day on Sunday came and we arrived at 5am and went to our different seeding as comrades marathon is attended by more than 18,000 people from all over the world. The race started at 5:30am in the morning as the cut off time to finish is 12 hours.
We ran all the way to Pietermaritzburg and it was a bit warm and all our experienced runners finish their Comrades marathon. Only one guy couldn’t finish as it was his first Comrades marathon, and at halfway he missed the cut-off time; but now he got an idea of the race and he will train more to prepare for next year.
Madikwe Mambas Race Times:
Spenser Moraope 8:25:37
Julius Nikani 8:25:52
Lesley Chifumbi 8:40:04
Elias Dire 8:58:16
Isaac Mokawane 9:27:43
Tertius Mokoma 9:44:19
Bethuel Kosietsile 9:57:36
Colin Lombard 11:20:43
Frank Botlhole 11:39:47
Phakamile Xanda 6:04:50 (completing 42.7km)
I would like to thank all the donors for their support and thanks to all who donated already, we still asking for more donations because without your support we won’t be able to uplift our local community, we got lots of projects coming this year, and we still need more donations. We proud to have Madikwe Mambas that was sponsored by Vance and our donors to make a huge different to our local communities.
