Dear All

It is time for the Comrades marathon again and this year the madikwe mamba's running club is running to make a gigantic difference in their communities and the lives of their families and friends!

The runners will be running for Obakeng village, Molatedi village, Welgeval village, Welverdient village and the Madikwe Academy! We are running to raise funds for upgrading schools and school playgrounds, old age homes, upgrading water pipelines, establishing vegetable gardens and so the list continues…

This year, the Madikwe Mambas will be hosting an Athletics day in Obakeng Village at the Motshabaesi Secondary School as a warm up for the Comrades Marathon! (Please see invitation below). The primary schools from the 5 above mentioned villages will be participating on the day and this is our way to educate the children of the community on how important sport is and how it can be used for upliftment of the people of their community!

We are ecstatic to say that we will have radio and television coverage from SABC to help us spread the word to increase our chances of raising funds for the different projects! (The SABC Radio network reaches 25 612 00 people on a daily basis with its 19 radio stations positioned to serve all South Africans including Channel Africa, an International Public Service Radio Station whose role is to contribute to the development agenda of Africa).

Pick and Pay Zeerust have also offered to assist us with boerewors rolls and coldrinks for all the kids from the schools participating in the athletics day!

There will be 12 runners running the Comrades Marathon this year and every single one of them is aiming to complete the race as they are running for a cause!

The runners are as follows:

Spencer Moraope

Lesley Chifumbi

Elias Dire

Julius Nikani

Frank Botlhole

Colin Lombard

Bethuel Kgosietsile

Tertius Mokoma

Carlien Esterhuizen

John Mothibi

Isaac Mokalane

Charles Mwebeiha

Should you wish, you can select a runner and sponsor them per kilometre that they complete in the Comrades Marathon (89km) or you can simply make a donation. All donors will be kept up to date with the projects that are chosen and village visits are encouraged.

Please help us spread the word! Any donation will contribute to making a difference in the lives of our surrounding communities!

If there are any lodges in Madikwe Game Reserve that would like to bring their guests to the Athletics day you are most welcome to do so – It will most certainly be an exciting, uplifting African Experience!

If there are any lodges that would like to be a sponsor for any of the runners of the Comrades Marathon you are welcome to make use of this opportunity to promote your lodge and your involvement in community upliftment by putting up any branded banners, umbrellas etc at the athletics day and we will also make use of your logo on all our social media to promote your involvement.

Should you require any additional information, you can contact Carlien Esterhuizen at carlien@purplerain.za.org or +27 83 3124014.
