SABLE BIRTHING TIPS
Earlier this year we had a sable cow (15/01) that gave birth to a bull calf that was too big for her to naturally give birth to without any help.
Unfortunately, the calf died during the birthing process. The social structure of sable naturally pushes out the weaker animals.
Regrettably, the pregnancy and miscarriage took its toll on this cow and she got pushed out of the herd, with the other sable harassing her to a point where she did not move around with them and never got an opportunity to get to the feeding troughs.
Our vet guided us and said that we should move her to a different camp with a younger bull (for company) as she will not survive living in the current herd that ousted her.
We successfully captured her and a younger bull and dropped them off in the safe area!
