FULL MOON DRUMMING FOR MADIKWE RHINOS 2017
Full moon used to radiate romance and hope, however, due to poaching which sadly, mainly takes place during this period, we all dread every full moon period approaching. Every full moon rising from the horizon lights up the way for poachers to slaughter our rhinos for their horns. We have to turn this around and bring back the beauty of what nature intended full moon to represent.
What better way than banging on a Djembe Drum under the African Skies during full moon to lift our spirits and being pro-active at the same time to preserve our heritage and protect our rhinos.
The Field Rangers and Counter Poaching Unit of Madikwe Game Reserve are working day and night with limited financial resources and often under adverse conditions. Aside from dealing with the human threat of armed poachers, they face potentially life threatening encounters with the very animals they are trying to protect, biting insects and sweltering temperatures in summer (as much as 40°C and above) with windy cold nights in winter that can drop to -3°C or colder.
In aid to assist our anti-poaching unit in protecting our rhinos, the lodges of the Madikwe Game Reserve would like to create awareness and are proud to present “Full Moon Drumming for Madikwe Rhinos”. The event is being held to raise funds for our Madikwe Counter Poaching Team to help combat rhino poaching in Madikwe Game Reserve.
The participation Entry fee for this event is R300 per person and includes taking part in an interactive drumming session presented to you, by one of our local artists, Bongani Gunduza, on the Madikwe plains under the African moonlit sky.
The Full Moon Drumming will take place on the 11th of February 2017 and will kick off in Madikwe Game Reserve on the junction of Massimo link and Ngori on the Madikwe plains. All participants will start arriving at 21:00pm and the interactive drumming will commence at 21:30pm.
The Madikwe Honorary Officers, with the assistance of our field guides, will secure the area before the Full Moon Drumming takes place as well as during the event.
